I wasn't supremely impressed. They might as well have put in 100-point type on the bottom of the screen "ALIENS ARE THE NEW BLACK PEOPLE" in the beginning, so heavy-handed was the comparison they drew. It shifted focus too much, from alien takeover film to man unto himself to buddy flick to Transformers. And the kill scenes are entertaining to a point (particularly the one in which a live pig is used as a weapon), but so amazingly over the top that it renders the whole act farcical and ultimately with blunted impact (see also: Starship Troopers).

It wasn't *bad* and it was a far sight better than the Terminator and Transformers films, but I'm not seeing the 97 percent Rotten Tomatoes score.

Why did the aliens come to Earth as refugees in the first place? Why were they all malnourished and unable to get back to their home planet. If "Christopher Johnson" (a name that cracked me up throughout) comes back, will it be with an invasion force or rescue team? Will Wikus ever be returned to his human form?

Lots of stuff left to see, I think.

Thought it was alright. Enjoyed it. But nothing groundbreaking.

Saw it last night. Thought it was terrific and put most sci-fi I've seen in the last 5 years to shame. Genuinely disturbing. Great to look at. Funny. Perfect ending.

The tension in the first half-hour was unbearable. I had no idea where the story was headed.

I disliked it. About an hour through the mind-numbing explosions and CGI gore I just about dozed off. Aside from the rather simplistic moral of the film, it was no different than a G.I. Joe or Transformers film.

Are you sure you actually saw this movie? The first hour had very few explosions and action. The first explosion or gore that jumps to mind is when they make Wikus test the alien weapon and that was pretty far into the movie.

Maybe there was something before that, but this was far from wall-to-wall explosions and gore.

I liked it fine, but the other couple we went with didn't and I can understand that.

Whoever said there's a lot of Cronenberg is right on. I don't have a problem with that kind of filmmaking but it's not going to be everybody's cup of tea, and it can be distracting from where the movie's trying to go.

Thought there were some plot holes (i.e. took 20 years to collect enough "fluid", Merwe sprays half the bottle on himself and yet there's still enough to fly the ship??), and why do they have to make the aliens speak 5-year-old kid english ("I fix it" or "It work now"). The break in at MNU was fun, but other than that I was never really into it.

I'm with you on the fluid part ... the kid-speak, I think, is nitpicking. If the kid was speaking like a rocket scientist or Shakespeare, it would have been worse, no?

There's a reason people are seeing The Hangover four times, almost everything else sucks...

If you had told me before the summer that Christian Bale would suck as John Connor and Johnny Depp would suck as John Dillinger, I would have told you that was not possible.

Anyone who thought that mousy Johnny Depp could pull off John Dillinger..... wow.

I'm with you on the fluid part ... the kid-speak, I think, is nitpicking. If the kid was speaking like a rocket scientist or Shakespeare, it would have been worse, no?

My take on the fluid is who knows how much was in there? I figured it was like opening a 20-ounce bottle of soda after it's been shaken. You're probably going to end up with some all over you. But there will still be enough left to drink. Of course you won't turn into a bottle of soda either.
