Didn't see another thread on this, and I understand why its being downplayed by the cable nets, but imagine you're a guy who hears on CNBC that the US Chamber of Commerce now supports the climate change bill and decide to dump or buy a bunch of stocks based on that info, and you move fast to get the best price. Then you find out it was a prank. A very elaborate prank, but a prank nonetheless.

Doesn't anyone check anything out anymore?

Ha! It used to be papers could edit the wire services. Now if they are wrong, the bad news still gets posted on your web site.

I wonder if that "prank" was just for fun or to make a stock market killing.
 
Guess we're going to have to do our own fact-checking when we read news stories or watch TV or read the interwebs.
