D & D

Sports Journalists Forum – Media, Newsroom & Reporting Talk

Help Support Sports Journalists Forum:

I played D&D for more than a year and really it. However, I've lost interest, mostly because games were on Sundays and ate most of my day: Each session was roughly four to five hours.

My DM paused our campaign for the summer. I regained my Sundays and have really enjoyed the time used elsewhere.

Now, my DM wants to restart the campaign. I don't think I'll be returning. Having that extra four to five hours to hang out with my girlfriend, run errands or attend other things have been great. It's amazing how much of a time-suck this game can be sometimes.

I played a ton of D&D in junior high and high school, but kind of "outgrew" it after that and gravitated more toward sports simulations. A bunch of my friends in college were avid RPG'ers (mostly Warhammer 40K and GURPS) and some of them continue their campaigns to this day.

There was a pretty good biography of Gygax that came out a few years ago. Goes not only into how he created/launched the business, but also all the creative in-fighting and the societal fallout as well.

"Does him wanting to play with us again mean he's turning into a geek or we're turning into cool guys?"

Ed Greenwood, who created the Forgotten Realms, is a librarian here in town. My 12-year-old self goes all aflutter whenever I see him. He looks like Gandalf if Gandalf let himself go a little.

I would talk his ear off. I LOVED the Realms books. It was one of my favorite campaign settings, too.

Elminster. Damn. He'd be cool to have a beer with, but I'd probably bore him to tears asking about all the same old fanboi stuff.

The GOAT.

I tried it in high school and just found it too complex. More often than not used it as an excuse to get out of the house (and drink beer).

I was first hoping this was a thread about Kate Upton.
