Chapters:

Players Who Died in Aircraft (e.g.., Thurman Munson, Cory Lidle)
Sometimes in Winter (e.g., Bob Moose)
Players Who Died in Automobile Accidents (e.g., Chico Ruiz)
Players Who Died of Natural Causes (e.g., Darryl Kile, Addie Joss)
Players Who Died in Service to Their Country (e.g. Harry Sharman)
Victims of Murder (e.g., Lyman Bostock)
Accidental Death (e.g. Ray Chapman)

and of course one whole chapter devoted to:

A Tragic Season in Cleveland (Tim Crews, Steve Olin, Cliff Young)

If handled with some taste, it could be an interesting read.

But if that book isn't enough death for you, you could always order something called "The Baseball Necrology."

Oh, please. Like we have room to talk.

The APSE writing awards are practically a celebration of macabre subject matter.

This is the sort of sports book I would have expected Stephen King to write.

Oh, and Fenian, I know it took 15,000 posts before you figured out the whole photos thing, but you really should pace yourself. You're going to sprain something.

Fran was a stringer for me way back when, and I'm not surprised he's writing a book like this. He's a Philly guy, and I just remember his greeting the Monday morning after Pelle Lindbergh's demise:
"What's the difference between a hockey puck and a Porsche?"

I'll agree that's the most macabre book.

But this one's creepier:

0920668372.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_SS400_.jpg

The mother sings "I'll love you forever / I'll love you for always / As long as I'm living / My baby you'll be." To her son to fall asleep as he grows up, all the way through his teen years. Cute, right? Until he's fully grown, moves out, lives across town AND SHE DRIVES TO HIS HOUSE WITH A LADDER ON TOP OF HER CAR, CLIMBS IN HIS WINDOW AND ROCKS HIM.

And this is supposed to comfort children? That your mother will never leave you alone, no matter how old you are, even breaking and entering?

Eesh.

If you like the book, you should read to companion book:

"He Ate The Hot Dog!

True stories of reporters who keeled over in the press box"

Eesh.

The cover is creepy enough. :o :o

That book is in my house, sad to say.
Even sadder: as my stepson turned 18, he was still leaving that same kind of mess in the bathroom.

Has David Lynch been made aware of this yet?

Somewhere, someone is thinking about Hopper with an oxygen mask. :)
