Corruption in Collegiate and High School Level Sports

Sports Journalists Forum – Media, Newsroom & Reporting Talk

USA Today did a good job on a story a couple years back showing that private schools and public schools in richer areas win conference and state championships at a rate far higher than their proportion.

Why? There is a lot of bull**** surrounding high school and college athletics. Maybe you don't care, but there are real issues here.

Yes, but nothing in the original post is news.

I'm confused.
Is the orginal post an except from Winfield's book or the departed's summary of it?

College:
At this level many of the kids in the rich families are exposed for not being as good as everyone said they were. They simply don't have the right genetic package to play the game at a high level, not the right combination of physical tools and usually are also not mentally tough because they have been babied their entire lives.

However, they are still inserted into the lineup because of their connections, and some of them might even go on to the pro level (there are always exceptions) but for the most part this is the end of the road for these crybabies and their wannabe dumbass parents.

However, the sad fact that money is taking over amateur sports has led to the crumbling of certain programs which used to be top notch, in an effect, their stupidity is also being exposed as it is obvious they have always relied on outside sources to bring in their top talent, and when those sources got caught up in the dollar, they couldn't do anything for themselves. The end result is weaker and weaker draft classes.

Pros:

At this point you are on your own. You have to rely on some dumb hillbilly scout to give a shot in the first place. Then you must have enough hype on your side to even get into the a lineup and be given the chance to fully develop, and after that it is on you to put up the numbers, the numbers are all that counts at tis level.

Thanks for the laff, newbie. That was the dumbest, and funniest, thing I've read in a while. What a way to start the morning.

Eh...like we don't cover the same ground over and over enough on this board. I've seen worse starts to a thread on here.

Yeah, high school coaches sit the poor kids like Larry Bird.

I'm guessing he is talking about AAU teams to whom I would not sell my snot.

That's what I took it to mean, too. High school coaches need to win. AAU coaches can have other goals in mind.
