Until last week I didn't know about Pete Davidson's dad.

"The League" star Steve Rannazzisi -- who copped to lying about escaping the 9/11 attack -- just got publicly ripped by Pete Davidson from 'SNL' ... whose firefighter dad was killed on 9/11.
Appropriately, Davidson was one of the first celebs to react to Rannazzisi's confession that he lied for years about being in the World Trade Center. Pete sarcastically tweeted, "It's ok @SteveRannazzisi people make mistakes ... Can't wait to meet my dad for lunch later."
Rannazzisi then stepped in a pile of s**t by replying, "thank you pete. i really appreciate it."
That's when Pete owned him with a simple, "I think you missed the point." He added that Steve's lie really sucks "because he's actually a funny comic and I love The League. It's f**ked up."
On the other hand, Rannazzisi's TV wife, Katie Aselton came to his defense, saying what he did was wrong, but "He's not running for office or raising your kids. #perspective."

I saw this item this morning and it jogged my memory to start dvr'ing the new season of The League. His lying got him one extra viewer.

He couldn't even be bothered to find a company that actually had offices there to lie about working for? What a lazy ****.

That's what I couldn't believe!

As I was reading the article, I was like "Merrill had offices in the WTC?"

Merrill's been in midtown for a long time. And, only a couple of big firms lost people, and they were widely reported. His first lie had to be on the spur of the moment, and then he couldn't go back

Obviously he was talking to entertainment folks, but anyone who spent a minute looking into his claims would have seen them to be obviously false.

Where did this guy even plant the seed that this would be something he could latch on to?

“Man you guys, 9-11 was three years ago today…crazy it’s been that long”
“Steve, weren’t you in New York City the day of the crash? You weren’t near the towers or anything were you?
Steve: [Lightbulb goes off] Actually…

This would be a good story for Brian Williams to cover when he comes back, and he is coming back, soon. Too soon.

I suspect the number of people who claim to have been in or near the WTC on 9/11 has multiplied several times over in the years since. Regardless, it's still an utterly contemptible lie. This asshole deserves every drop of the scorn and retribution he'll get for this.

They had tons of people at the World Financial Center, which is across the West Side Highway from the towers. Still doesn't make it close to right, especially because he was apparently in midtown and not even downtown.

Oh ****. You're right, they did.

But none in either tower.

I was pretty stunned by this. Always liked him on The League and he's a great guest on podcasts, where I've heard him tell his 9/11 story a time or two. Pretty sure I heard him tell it on WTF.

This is what I don't get. Why would it multiply? What would possess someone who wasn't there to say they were, and then follow it up with details, and then repeat the lies, for years?

If I couldn't bring myself to come clean about it on my own, I think I'd just say I didn't want to talk about it, and then, refuse to do it.
