College football is king in the South, and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Colleges Editor reigns over it all. He or she drives dynamic coverage in a region that includes the University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, the SEC and ACC, and local colleges.
This editor oversees a team of five beat writers always looking to break stories in the newspaper and online. The editor will also collaborate with a group of enterprise reporters and editors who'll produce compelling stories that readers won't find anywhere else.
If it's big and it's local -- the Chick-fil-A Bowl, NCAA tournaments or SEC football and basketball championships, for example -- the Colleges Editor is driving the coverage plan.
He or she would join a sports section that was awarded the 2006 Triple Crown by the APSE for Top 10 daily, Sunday and special sections, as well as Top 10 recognition for the 2006 college football special section.
The Colleges Editor uses a coaching style that, over time, improves both the journalism and the people. He or she edits to meet or exceed AJC story standards so that content is accurate, fair and written in a way that is interesting, understandable and relevant to readers and users. The editor also takes responsibility for the whole package, including collaborating with other departments to ensure the best overall presentation.
