Clueless on the media

Listening to one of my university's trustees lament the loss of high school newspapers. He suggested high schools should mimeograph a few sheets of paper to get the news out. Amazing that trustees are focused on this instead of real issues facing the university.

When I attended the fine academic institution represented by my avatar, I couldn't believe they still used mimeograph machines. This was 1992. My high school had stopped using them long before.

I remember them being used up until I was in sixth grade, so that would have been 1987-88. We just called them ditto machines.

I'm not so sure that high school newspapers are good preparation for future journalists.

No in-depth reporting, nothing that would embarrass the administration, puff pieces on popular people, navel gazing columnists, very little advertising ...
