Sorry if this is s d_b, but just got word from a friend who was laid off today as part of a substantial national layoff by ClearChannel.

Not completely surprising since Clear Channel sold parts of their company off in the last couple of years. They haven't been doing well for awhile. They want to be this local/national conglomerate and it doesn't work. If they want to think they're national stations, that's fine, but in radio, much like print, local is the new thing.

And, Bubbler, Clear Channel is the lowest form of scum.

Edit -- the WSJ apparently had this on Friday:

Clear Channel Communications will cut about 1,500 jobs, or 7 percent of its work force, in a move to save $400 million, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

The job cuts would mostly affect the radio station chain’s advertising salespeople, according to the story, which cited unnamed sources. The company employs about 20,000 in total.

Clear Channel is also planning to replace some local programming with syndicated shows, the Journal said.

This morning all the websites on all the stations in the country cut off access to their on-air personalities’ web pages. In other words, Clear Channel is actively working to prevent on-air talent from disparaging the company on its own sites.

Radio-info is a very slow board compared to SportsJournalists.com. There's not a lot of posting. And while they tend not to go off the rails like we do around here from time to time, they also have very few informative or interesting posts.

I can hardly conceive of anything less interesting than canned studio babble on the Yankees, Giants, Red Sox, Mets, Patriots, Jets, Knicks etc etc etc every single minute of every single day.
