This is the one that might lure Jon Krakauer out of book-writing retirement.

I got the same feeling reading this horrific story as I did reading the recent New Yorker story on the Dyaltlov Pass incident and Krakauer’s Into Thin Air. I’m all for adventure and thrill-seeking, but I don’t mess with arctic temperatures, ice and large amounts of snow.

Sounds like from the BBC story the intensity of the storm caught everyone by surprise. Otherwise, why even start?

As somebody who is ultra-curious, I've been seeing a lot of outrage since the local weather center predicted the storm a few days before the race started.
Only thing I can think of is it's something out of what-does-not-kill-me-makes-me-stronger school. Mind over matter and yadda yadda yadda.
