Checked out the CBS Evening News to see how it would report on Pelley's dismissal.
It did which did not surprise me.
Jim Axelrod voiced what was pretty much a testimonial to Pelley's career at CBS News. It began airing at approximately the start of the second quarter-hour.
I was surprised, however, at the package's length. Best guess is about five, maybe six minutes.
Point being it wasn't a :30-to-:45 read.

However, the pace at which he talks... can be a very tough listen and watch.

He drags out every syllable, every word and - if it's a story he's on that you don't care - you won't stick through it.

This is why I could never watch Pelley. Very tough listen, indeed.
But he sure did impress me this week. ... And 40 Emmys? WOW.

I am imagining Pelley being loud and disruptive in that slow, deliberate voice where everyone else is checking their phone as he battles through each syllable at that awful pace.

There are (some) suck-ups and lazy, complacent staffers in most any newsroom, and probably especially in the biggest ones. We confronted one dip**** mid-level editor about it once, and he proudly said this: "I know who butters my bread here."

Newsrooms are full of misfits, too. They often do the best work, though, and they're "misfits" because they buck or ignore any and all weaselly management bull****. ... And, uh, for various other reasons, too. But many of them are such gamers where it counts.

God love the misfits. Mike Royko did it best. And Andy Rooney at CBS (hah!).

Dunno when or why he developed that delivery style. But it's a hard slog for sure.

They want everything questioned But THEM. They wanted us to be digging into every town council and school board for corruption but ignore anyone in the Chamber of Commerce directory because they advertise. And when the editor once mentioned that Dean Singleton had a private jet while the company was in bankruptcy I merely said, "excuse me? He what?"

Was there ever a doubt that the Ellisons and Bari Weiss were going to turn "60 Minutes" directly into the ditch the moment they could?
