How hard is it to bet sports on-line?

Dumb question but I don't know. Can you use a VPN? Would the on-line bookmaker require a local address or would they accept an out of state address for the payment information?

This is just a guess. ... but I'd guess with the level of regulation they face, they have something in place to detect it and cancel your account / bets. They likely have the bets go through an app or a browser plugin that relies on geolocation separately from the IP address.

I am not sure how they do it, but they say they have the ability to catch IP address spoofing and DNS masking. I would guess it is difficult to get past them, but I don't know for certain.

How long before this changes? I think I understood the commish of the AAF say that in a year or two, you will be able to make bets on every play of a game from your phone.

I had an web browser on an old phone that made it appear I was in a different country. I used it in order to get British Netflix. It worked once, but the next time I tried it Netflix noticed I was using a browser that changed my location.

Looking around, I probably was using a proxy browser or a free VPN.

My understanding is that states can regulate sports betting only within their states. I haven't looked closely, but I believe that agreements between two states to combine their sports gambling business (as they do with Mega Millions) are illegal.

Until there is that sort of liquidity, unless the vigs are massive, I can't see how play by play gambling could be profitable for the books.

A lot of in-game wagering on spreads and totals are thriving already, though to your point it's usually 15-cent juice or more. Play-by-play would be the next logical frontier, though I wonder about the logistics while watching on TV.

There is no need to use a VPN to bet online. There are a number of offshore sites that take US action. There is a risk, not that you will go to jail, but that you might not get paid or the online book goes belly up. So it is recommended that you don't keep large sums online.

The main issue in the US is depositing money. Many sites do take credit cards for a small fee, but not all credit cards work. Western Union is another method of depositing. Withdrawing money may be an issue,as it may take some time to receive a withdrawal depending on the method. Bitcoin is increasingly become the standard for deposits and withdrawals.

Let me add that if you use a VPN to falsify your residence and get caught, you will be permanently banned from that company even if in the future that company gets permission to operate in the State where you actually reside.

I think that if on-line sports betting was legalized in my state there would be enough competitors that I could find a place tot my action.

If I bet off-shore I would wonder if my money was going to disappear. Many got burned playing on-line poker.
