Bones is like NCIS in that it mixes a significant dose of comedy into the drama. Both have nowhere near the gravitas of Cold Case or Without a Trace, but they are very entertaining.

BTW, it's bizzare that the same guy who created the boring JAG came up with NCIS
Seeing as NCIS was spun off JAG, it shouldn't be that surprising. Donald Bellisario is the same man who brought us the wonder that is Magnum, P.I. as well.

NCIS is that good?

I thought Vegas was the only decent CSI.
NCIS doesn't remotely resemble CSI. Bones is a closer fit since there is more emphasis on the scientific evidence. NCIS does have a forensic specialist and two MEs, but they're mostly secondary characters.

Getting back to the original topic, Fox re-aired what is, in my opinion, the best episode Bones has ever done, last night - Aliens in a Spaceship, from season two. Just outstanding work from everyone in the cast, but especially TJ Thyne and Emily Deschanel.

Yeah, that is the one that hooked me. The rallying speech of the agent was pretty ****ing good.

I also love running bad guys in shows. I hope I did not give too much away with that.

Ah, Proby is a nepotism hire!

It's a bit of a running theme with Bellisario - at least four of his kids have appeared/worked on his shows; his current wife (Sean Murray's mom) has appeared on NCIS, and his then-wife Deborah Pratt was a recurring character on Quantum Leap.

While you're recovering from the ankle surgery, get your hands on the season one and two DVDs if you can. The Gravedigger isn't Bones' only running villain (and I'm told that storyline is going to be resolved this season). The show has pulled in some really great guest stars, too - Zeljko Ivanek and Adam Baldwin in season one, and Ryan O'Neal, Loren Dean and Stephen Fry in season two.

Grave Digger came back this week. You can catch it on Hulu if you missed it.

Bumping this to let everyone know what I will be doing tonight from 8-9 p.m. EST.

HC is/used to be a big fan of the show

I guess most of you who watch the know that it's based on the life and novels of real life forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs whose first novel Deja Dead (1997 or so) started the whole genre .

Penguin Canada was the original publisher and when I saw it in their catalogue, I thought immediately, "That's gonna be a huge success"
