A day later and here is my story.
I was on the other side of Black Friday working in retail this year, at one of the large stores mentioned in this thread. I was grateful that I didn't get the opening (4 am) shift or the closing shift (did NOT want to be there until 3 am trying to clean that place up.) Went in at 8 am and could barely find a spot to park. But once in the store, as crowded as it was, it really was an organized chaos.
My department (which no one had been working in until I arrived) was a total mess. I spent the next 8 hours trying my best to get it in shape somewhat. The worse part, of course, was the condition of the 20 ladies dressing rooms to keep up with. That's where I realize how horribly nasty (and quite frankly rude and uncaring) most people are. When my relief came in at 4, she commented on how it was not near as bad as she thought it was going to be.
I did spend 2 hours working the registers to give people lunch breaks, and received more than one comment from the customers at how smooth and fun their experiences in the store had been. Bottom line, is that we apparently had a nice group of customers over all as well as a good group of employees and managers. For that, I'm grateful.
Once I arrived home, there were friends of my daughter's and her boyfriend's that I had not seen in a while here. Thanksgiving dinner was cooking and I was handed a beer and not allowed to help. The dinner that we ate at 6:30 was simply amazing (coming from young people who had never made a Thanksgiving dinner before.) They wouldn't even let me do the dishes or clean up when it was over.
I can honestly say it was nice to spend a day surrounded by good people.
