I'd never thought I'd say this, but I'm rooting for Comcast on this one.

"We're offering the channel in the region for about $1 a month per subscriber. Outside the region, we're offering it for a dime. So for Comcast, the blended national rate of this channel is really about 30 cents when you consider it across their subscribers nationally."

Wonder if he got dizzy from spinning.

I live in Big Ten country, I'm a fan of a Big Ten school, I roll my eyes at the anti-Big Ten rancor elsewhere in the nation.

Having said all that ... **** the Big Ten Network.

Who the **** outside the Big 110 region would even want to watch that monstrosity of boredom? Sure not everyone who went to a Big 110 lives in that region now, but still. It's bad enough we get bored to tears every Saturday during football season, and during their boring hoops season. All the time? Ayeeeee!!!

Oh BS.

Big Ten women's crew ... you know you want it *****!

I'm waiting for John Swofford's incredible marketing machine to crank out an ACC Network. ::)

Hasn't ESPNU taught these guys ANYTHING?
You aren't getting top dollar and thrown onto basic cable.

Agreed with everyone here. Let's say the network plans just 8 hours a day of original programming out of every 24 hours, with the rest to be covered with replays and paid programming. That's 2920 hours to fill in a year.

35 football games x 3 hours per game = 105 hours
100 men's basketball game x 2 hours per = 200 hours

So, being EXTREMELY generous and saying that all the football and men's basketball games will be of interest to a lot of sports fans in Big 10 country, that still leaves 2,615 hours of THSP (total horse **** programming) in a year.

Or viewed another, the games anyone will give a **** about will constitute approximately 2.5 hours of programming per week.

Be a Yankee in the middle of the SEC-propaganda bull****.. you'll see who...

But Delany is an arrogant **** and I hate Comcast with a passion... can we root for both parties to explode?

What happens in five years when the big ten decides they want to make more money and they relegate the U OF M/OSU game to their network?

I can't believe no one sees this coming. Between the B10 Network and the NFL Network, we are being forced on digital cable and satellite dishes. So much for the casual fan.

Delany and his network minions have been making the rounds of radio stations (team flagships, I think) and newspapers in Big Ten land. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel editorialized the other day that the network should be on standard (non-digital, whatever it's called) cable. Swallowed the Big Ten spin that people deserve to get this without paying extra.
What, and the cable system isn't going to raise the rates to pay the extra $1.10 a month? When cows fly.

When they get NFL, AFL, MLB, NBA, etc, etc, then we'll see if we should pay.

according to the BTN....

72% Amount of your cable bill that goes to either cable-operator profits or their non-programming costs. David Leach, an independent researcher who formerly headed U.S. Rep. John Dingell's telecommunications staff, in a research paper says programming costs are not responsible for increasing cable rates, despite operator claims. Leach's paper was filed with the FCC last week on behalf of the four major broadcast networks.

Didn't this happen last year when Ohio State and I want to say Ohio was on ESPNU and the only hue and cry was out of Columbus.

And there was a big to do last year when Air Force and Notre Dame was on the *gasp* CSTV Network, depriving the beloved Irish of being on national TV for the first time in something like 20 years.

For some reason, the Republic survived.

When the pros try this **** it's understandable, but this is college athletics. It's pure bull****.

The players should wake the **** up and realize they are being taken advantage of in an incredibly shady way.

Not to mention that the games on syndicated TV last year (the ESPN+ package) go off off-air TV and onto the BTN. So everything but ABC (football) and CBS (basketball) coverage, you have to pay for.

Here here, I'll raise a beer to that. Comcast was crying big croc tears over the whole NFL Network thing. Like that isn't the pot calling the kettle black. I hope DirecTV, Dish Network and Verison bury the greedy Comcast fucwads in the desert and throw away the shovel. There, I feel better now.

Besides Comcast, the Big Ten Network hasn't nailed down agreements with Time Warner and Charter in Wisconsin. What a joke.
