Best Press Box Food For College Football In the Nation?

Nobody gives a **** about the media food in the league I work in (Plymouth's is the best BTW) but when I was in Memphis I went to the Rendezvous. I thought it was great, mind you we don't have any good barbecue joints here in Toronto, that I know of anyway. I liked the whole back alley thing too. And AutoZone Park is great.

This was a long time ago, but a pregame lunch they served at Michigan State when BC played there in the 90s (1995, I think, anyway Saban was coaching 'em) was an excellent meal by any standards. All the foods were provided by state agricultural associations, you know, "Michigan Pork Producers Association" "Green Bean Growers of Michigan," etc. All of it was delicious. Best ice cream I have ever tasted.

Corso has mentioned those ice cream sundaes on the air a couple times.

MSU Dairy Store probably served the ice cream. Best damn ice cream in the state of Michigan.

Not football but the spread at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee for Marquette or Bucks games is unreal. I have not been there in a couple of years but they put out an amazing spread.

Will I take a cookie? Sure.
But I'm not chowing down so somebody can say I'm up there gorging myself on free food and doing diddly. I, too, am sick of the stereotype.

Nebraska puts out a pretty good spread. Home cookin'-type stuff, which is really well-prepared, and pizza from Angelo's (?).

And I agree that this is in the Pantheon of bad story ideas.

Believe it or not, Youngstown State has a pretty righteous spread.

And I'll tenth the notion that this is an extraordinarily bad story idea.

YSU's spread tops most of the major university press box fare I've had. YSU also had a catered lunch for its Tuesday news conference for years, but that apparently ended this season.

Was there last year. Wasn't bad. Pizza, wings, good desserts.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff is right there with Youngstown State as a small school with D-1 spread. Usually fried/baked chicken or chicken strips, Mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, greens and rolls. Dessert — assorted cobblers and my fave — sweet potato pie.

I covered a game at Auburn, and they were serving leftover breakfast with some kind of turkey casserole. It wasn’t good, so I skipped right to the dessert which was a freezer full of Ice cream treats. Drumsticks, ice cream sandwiches, etc.

I grew up about an hour away from Memphis, so my family would make regular trips to "big city" for shopping and what not. By far my favorite place was Interstate BBQ.

Sounds like me, growing up. You weren't by chance about an hour south, were you?
Interstate was always Dad's favorite.

No I lived in Arkansas. Jonesboro to be exact, which isn't small by the standards in Arkansas. I know people who would come to Jonesboro because it was the big town, but people that live in Jonesboro go to Memphis because it is the big town. I guess it is just the vicious cycle of things.

Interstate tops all in my book, although Rendezvous is a close second. The BBQ nachos at Rendezvous are the best I have ever had. Anytime I can make it to Autzone Park for a Red Bird game I always buy some from the Rendezvous station they have there.

Interesting about the Joe Kline thing. I don't think he owns the one in Memphis. There used to be one in Jonesboro I know it wasn't owned by him. I didn't know he was an assistant there either.

Not B.S. at all. I think this is a stupid assignment myself. They want a story about how journalism has changed. From blogs to travel to all of it. Part of it is the great food and how that is going away at some places. Not on my beat, but down the road I am sure. Media guides the entire deal.

I agree with those who are saying it is stupid and I have read it.

In reference to a previous question, Mizzou is charging for food. There was a thread on it.

What about NFL? I don't get there much, but New England and Philly were great the last time I was there. Washington sucked. Danny Snyder probably doesn't care if his hacks get fed anything decent.

Georgia Tech is charging too - $5 for a spread of BBQ pork sandwiches and chicken fingers. Looked pretty pedestrian but I didn't partake.

The above quote is NO LIE. I've been to AutoZone Park once in my life. Those BBQ nachos were the best thing I've ever eaten at a ballpark and would probably make top 10 in food items I've had in my life.
