Best antivirus software

I've used Norton Internet Security for several years, and am wondering if it's worth renewing my subscription. Are there more reasonably priced options that do just as well?

My friend who knows a heck of a lot more about this kind of stuff than I do suggested I just get avast www.avast.com, which seems to do a perfectly fine job for me and has the added bonus of being free.

I use McAfee on the desktop because it came with it. I use Zone Alarm on my laptop and gladly pay for it each year

I've been using it for a while, and it's been absolutely fine. No problems at all.

It's a new update they've come out with. You have to do a bit of digging, but they still have a free version (also updated). Understandably, they don't make that real clear.

Get rid of Norton, and I feel the same way about Mcaffe -- AVG picks up stuff those two miss. I've been using AVG more than 10 years now and I swear by it.

i use AVG. I used to have norton on the computer just because it came with it. but once that **** expired, i uninstalled it and, lo and behold, my computer started running about 100x faster.

I think that's Norton's M.O. We're going to use so much of your computer's available memory, you CAN'T get a virus.

I've been content to stick with McAfee over the years because it's always served me well, but based on what I've seen on friends' systems I definitely endorse AVG. That's very slick stuff.

Zone Alarm is strong. It's overtly agressive, but would rather have it be that way than face the alternative.

One of the computer magazines did rated the antivirus software last year and Kaspersky came out at the top of the class. It costs a little more, but if you catch it onsale or with a rebate the price is good. It provides updates several times a day (as opposed to the daily or less often updates of other companies).
It doesn't eat up system resources and I've been happy with it so far.
I was surprised in the ratings to see that while Kaspersky, Norton and some others catch in the high 90s percent of viruses, that McAfee was only in the high 80s. So, although my ISP offers McAfee for free to its subscribers, I pass and use other virus protection and internet security products.

I did the exact same thing just last week. I ditched Norton on the advice of two friends, picked up AVG and the computer is much faster. No complaints so far.
