Who can forget Darrell Griffiths...Dr. Dunkenstein.

We always called Keith Lee "KFC Lee" because, well, look at his waist.

This man would protest, all the way from his funky estate in Lovetron, but then again, Chocolate Thunder is a better nickname anyway: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darryl_Dawkins
I actually got to interview Darryl Dawkins quite a few years ago. I swear, I would ask a question and he would answer a different question someone asked him in 1979. Most bizarre interview I have ever had. I wish I would have saved the tape...it was incredible. I only remember one question and answer...

Me: Did you try to pull the rims down?
Him: They were in my way. I had a job to do and they were in my way.

WTF did that mean? He couldn't do his job without the rims.

Phil Jackson's nickname when he played for the Knicks was Hangerman

Because his shoulders made him look like he forgot to take the hanger out of his clothes.

My all time favorite is still Tom Burleson, "The Great White Hopeless."

Phil Jackson had about an 8-foot wingspan. He looked like a giant condor.

DD was a big kid. He, Lloyd (World) and Jelly Bean had a lot of fun with reporters. They shot them a notebook full of crazy quotes, some of which song lyrics, and the press would gobble it up.

Reports are saying Pitino, Tarkanian, Lewis and Payton will be announced as inductees on Monday.

Excellent choices.

Louisville's Rick Pitino, Guy Lewis of Houston, Jerry Tarkanian of UNLV and Sylvia Hatchell of North Carolina, former NBA stars Bernard King and Gary Payton and former University of Virginia star Dawn Staley.

All worthy. Of course as I have stated before I wish they wouldn't induct current coaches. They'd still have a five-person class, to say nothing of the five previously announced inductees.

Feel bad for Spencer Haywood, who apparently was told he was in.
