With two dongs tonight, Marcus Thames has 24 homers on the season, good for 49 RBI.

That's just horrid.

Perhaps he'll be traded to Cincinnati next season.

If you would have said before the season started that the BoSox would lose Ortiz to injury for a significant period, not be able to count on J.D. Drew in the second half, trade Manny Ramirez and STILL be leading the wild card and just three games out of first in September, people would have said you were nuts. But they've done exactly that primarily because Pedroia has been good to great all year and has carried the team for months now. Hell, he went 5-for-5 batting cleanup the other day. Also, as far as numbers, he leads the AL in batting average and runs.

A great summation for one of the most unlikely MVP candidates ever.

Morneau's having a great year, but Pedroia is the best player in the league right now.

Phil Rizzuto, on the other hand, was 5-6. So was Bobby Shantz. They're the shortest MVPs.
Joe Morgan was 5-7.
Jimmy Rollins is 5-8. So were Yogi Berra and Roy Campanella.
Terry Pendleton was a media-guided 5-9. Nellie Fox, Eddie Collins and Jimmy Evers also 5-9.

Hey now, I still have one of those. 10th edition MacMillan, only hard copy I've ever owned. Complete with updated stats through 1995. Tom Glavine's WS MVP preserved for posterity. Take that, spnited!!!!!

Haven't cracked it open since 2004, but I'll never get rid of it. One day, there might be a world in which Baseball-Reference.com does not exist. I don't want to live in that world, but if I do ... I'll be ready. :D

Completely drew a blank on Morneau when I started the thread/discussion. He and Pedroia are definitely the top two. It probably comes down to which team makes the playoffs.


Cabrera and Hamilton are probably in the same boat, being on losing teams. Fanboy aside, I might put Cabrera over Hamilton, mainly because he was hot late in the season rather than early.

Also, Cabrera switched leagues this year, so there was an adjustment period for him. Should be fun to watch him next year after an entire year in the AL.
