Andrew Sachs, the actor famous for his role in the series Fawlty Towers, has died. He had been suffering dementia for several years and passed away in a care home last week. He was 86.

Sachs was best-known for playing bumbling Spanish waiter Manuel in the iconic BBC comedy series Fawlty Towers, for which he was nominated for a BAFTA.

Sachs was born in Germany and raised in Great Britain, which probably still is a surprise to many. In real life his accent was thoroughly British.

I just saw this. This sucks. Manuel is absolutely one of the funniest characters in anything, anywhere, and Sachs was brilliant.

It was jarring to hear him the first time I saw him out of character. I knew he was British, but it was still so strange.
