Trophy was knocked off while on display this weekend at the A-Day Game. The trophy was destroyed. Estimated value, $30,000.

It was knocked over by a player's father. The university won't say who the culprit was.

"Athletic department spokesman Jeff Purinton said the Waterford Crystal trophy, valued at $30,000, was on display in the Mal Moore Athletic Facility as part of the festivities for the Crimson Tide’s spring football game Saturday in Tuscaloosa, Ala. He says the man stumbled on a rug that was under the trophy display.
Purinton said the school is working with the American Football Coaches Association, which owns the trophy, on getting a replacement."

You figure the money Bama generates they could at least build a secure trophy case. Jeesh.

They need to make this guy pay for the trophy himself, period. If I'm a student there and I have my tuition go up to cover this, I'm pisssed right now.

As an alum, if you're a student there, I'm angry.

Didn't Florida have something like this happen a few years back?

You're still here?

Yes.
And as someone said on FB, it's a matter of time until Bama sells the shards of glass...

Now I'll never get to pose with the trophy in WalMart.

There's always next year.

Yes, Orson Charles, former UGA tight end now entering the draft, bumped into it and shattered it on a recruiting visit, but the school said it was the backup. Apparently Alabama didn't think far enough ahead to put the original somewhere safe, if that sort of sentimental thinking even exists in Saban's world.
