The Clinton (Iowa) Herald, a six-day-a-week newspaper, is seeking applications for an Assistant Sports Editor in the newsroom.

Clinton sits on the Mississippi River and features many outdoor activities. Subscriptions continue to circulate in Iowa and Illinois.

The Assistant Sports Editor is responsible for reporting, photography and design of the daily Sports section. The qualified candidate will be proficient in Photoshop. Coverage area includes high school and college sports, as well as a Class A Seattle Mariners minor-league baseball team, the Clinton LumberKings. Sharp writing and AP style knowledge are a must, and multimedia experience is a plus.

The Clinton Herald publishes in the afternoon Monday through Friday and on Saturday morning.

I have never worked at this particular newspaper, but I do work for a CNHI paper. Just a day ago, the company came out and said that corporate wide the month of January was down 60% in January. Staff hours have been getting cut this week for many locations. Page counts are getting cut and couple of this papers sister locations are loosing a publication day.

They're also closing in on beginning a paywall on all corporate websites...it has been my understanding that they have recently been testing a other locations and should be implementing them widely around April this year.

It is no newsflash for the industry, but I am not sure how faithful I would be with the longevity with this particular position.
