The Associated Press is seeking a staffer for its Florida Statehouse bureau in Tallahassee.
In addition to being a key member of the AP's team covering politics and government in Florida, the position will initially focus on coverage leading up to the Republican National Convention in Tampa in 2012.
The reporter must be able to develop a beat and build sources in one of the busiest and most prominent political environments in the U.S., and be able to work across departments and formats.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will: break news and spot political trends in relation to the Republican National Convention.
Have a hunger for digging into the players and issues within state government and politics
Identify and develop stories that break news and have impact.
Work with the Florida news editor, administrative correspondent in Tallahassee, South regional desk, Washington bureau and others to ensure AP is aggressively pursuing breaking news and high-impact enterprise.
write and report compelling enterprise for local, national and global audiences.
report and write on deadline in competitive situations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
(among other things) Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
