Deep in the hearta (enemy territory)
Haven't been heard from since Sunday night. Police are searching a 30-mile radius from the cell tower where their last phone call was transmitted from.

Rarely do stories like these end happily.

I have a question.

2 of these girls are from California, and 1 from Canada.

The girl from Canada, I can understand, but what in the world is the reason from leaving warm, sunny California to North Da-***-kota?

And they play softball. In North Dakota. Their softball season must last about a week.

This is sad and I have a bad feeling it's only going to get worse. Stories like this never seem to end well.

You go where the scholarship money is.

What level is Dickinson State, though? D-II?

Man. I know some people at the Dickinson newspaper. And was just reading some of the comments on their site about their disappearance (why there'd be comments allowed on a story like this, I don't know, although it looks like the "worst" that happened was a fight between people blaming police for not searching enough).

Anyway, here's a tame one, but still, especially that it appeared likely it was an accident from the start, it's like, "Thanks, Detective. I'm sure the authorities weren't thinking of this until you posted it on the newspaper's site."

I searched Face Book and found all three of these girls each have a Face Book account. All three of their accounts are privacy restricted, however each of their friends list is available for viewing. I searched each of the girl's friends list, and all three girls have included themselves in each other's list of friends. From doing this and viewing their profile pictures, comparing those I have seen here at the Press these three girls are the right people and not someone with the same names. Can these three accounts be opened by Face Book to the authorities in a case such as this, in order to view and investigate older posts and those made most recently for clues, threats, plans

Man. Reading the wire story, and all three were in the car, 12 feet of water, and no one got out?

Something's missing, here.

I don't know. There was a 20/20 special once that had what to do if your car is submerged. Even in a small amount of water, the panic that hits usually does people in.

The three often would go to the lake to star gaze:

Even in shallow water you can't open the doors. If you can't roll down the windows (electrical short), then you need something to break a window like a hammer, spark plug or one of the tools they now sell.

If you don't have a window punch, you are in trouble

The story I just read had the deaths updated but still had the info about the students -- majors and such -- listed in present tense.

Made it even sadder.

DICKINSON, N.D. - Three college softball players found dead after their sport utility vehicle went into a pond on a North Dakota farm during a stargazing trip likely drove straight into the water in the dark, authorities said Wednesday.

Stark County Sheriff Clarence Tuhy said the women's SUV was found resting on its wheels Tuesday in about 10 feet of water hidden by tall grass, with the doors and windows closed.

"When you're not familiar with an area like that it would have been very easy to drive into," Tuhy said.

As I understand it, you can open them once the water pressure inside the car equals the water pressure outside it. That means waiting until the water in the car reaches the same level as outside. So if you're in 10 feet of water, you have to let the water fill up the car before the doors will open. Certainly takes some knowledge and some holding of breath, and you have to overcome panic, but my understanding is that works. It's possible I'm wrong, though. Fortunately, I haven't been in that situation to try it out.
