They moved Wimbledon back a week last year (or the year before) to give the players three weeks instead of two to get used to the grass. French didn't really move (always ends somewhere between the 5th and 10th of June).

Caroline Wozniacki is good friends with Serena and, it seems, is beginning to sound like her.

After her loss to Ekaterina Makarova today, Woz said her opponent "got a little lucky” and added “I would be very surprised if you saw her go far.”

Odd thing to say about a two-time Grand Slam semifinalist and four-time quarterfinalist.

Speaking of borgs ... I think Venus and Serena are superhuman. They'll play for another 15 years or basically until they get tired of playing tennis like Martina Navratilova.

Along with the Tour de France gearing up, if anyone still cares about that. It's the European sports season in America,a nd leads us nicely into the start of NFL training camps.

At times I felt like Serena was at least justified in saying it, but usually saved it for the opponents she hated (like Justine Henin...and I'd say Sharapova if Sharapova ever beat her). Never felt like Caro had the resume to call someone who beats her 'a little lucky'

And Makarova is still alive in the singles draw.

If you look at Serena's and Venus' quotes after matches (WRT their opponents), you'd never guess they were sisters.

Good for Makarova, but I just haven't been able to attach to any woman player since Dementieva retired.

This was pretty pathetic from Saturday. Edmund is awarded a point . . . that he lost three times.

And plays an unseeded opponent for a spot in the semifinals. It'd be nice if she could get inside the top 100 in the rankings so the seeding isn't a joke.

I kind of miss the old days when the top clay court players would come to Wimbledon, fresh off their successful clay court seasons and boasting high rankings, only to get hammered in the seedings because they had never proven anything on grass.
