Yeah, there's no parsing it like that. He has played 6 positions this season.

Just saying if you are going to put it that way, you need to acknowledge that two of those were for only one inning. the way Bryant has been used certainly should be a factor.

Murphy is also versatile, but he has been able to play regularly at one spot or another most of the season. They slid him to first base while Zimmerman was out, but otherwise he has been at second most of the time.

Britton is going to be the runaway choice. Happ will be runner-up unless he ****s the bed the last 6 weeks.

Given how the voters traditionally treat relief pitchers, I doubt any closer runs away with that award.

Perhaps, but he did get moved to first with the bases loaded and no outs in the 12th inning because he has the better arm. It didn't come to that but he was there because of a tactical decision.

Great, but it is still a bit misleading to say he played six positions when two of them were for only one inning.

Britton is 37 for 37 in saves ops and has a 0.54 ERA (3 ER in 50 IP). He has basically pitched a perfect season.

I did not say it was inaccurate. I said it was misleading, and it is, which is why I pointed out that he only played one inning at two of those positions.

Your first argument is made up. You are assuming a reaction to something that didn't even happen.

The second is irrelevant to the discussion, unless you want to start pushing Will Ferrell's candidacy.

I'm not arguing against Bryant as an MVP candidate. There is certainly a very strong case to be made for him and for Murphy. I'd say it is too close to call at the moment, but we do have more than a month remaining in the season.

I'm just taking issue with one misleading part of your argument.

When you are dealing with that level of pitching, it can turn on a start. Hernandez had one terrible outing against the Blue Jays in one of his last few outings and that seemed like it cost him the award.

True. It's just an educated guess at this point because there is so much season left to be played.

I love Altuve. He's probably the best player in the game, pound for pound, inch by inch.

He and Trout are great fun to watch, just as individuals — even though they seemingly make every play and get bucketfuls of hits against your team.

And he has done it for 50 innings, less than a third of what the other Cy Young Award contenders have thrown. It is still difficult for a relief pitcher to get the necessary votes. The last one was Eric Gagne in 2003. Before that, it was Dennis Eckersley in 1992.

Britton's numbers are better than either of those guys in their Cy Young seasons, but the real issue is the comparison to his peers this season.
