I agree to an extent. You can't predict which comedic actors will cross over, but they quite frequently do. Look at Bill Murray.

I haven't seen Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, but most people I know who have seen it have not been impressed. That's the one Best Picture nominee that surprises me.

I'm trying to figure out who the "snub" was in Best Actress. That was the category that everybody thought they had pegged and I don't think too many people thought Mara was getting nominated.

And/or Elizabeth Olsen.

But you're right, I think Swinton was who a lot of people had in that slot.

But Mara seemed to gather some steam lately. It's like people wanted to give that film some nomination.

I have a tradition of seeing all the nominees in the major categories. I am so pissed about "Extremely Loud..." because I really don't want to see it. At all. I think I might skip it. Other than that, I've seen most of the nominees, so I'm in good shape.

Elizabeth Olsen was terrific - that's definitely a snub. Tilda Swinton, too. Michael Fassbender was on all the lists for "Shame," too.

Of all the movies with a nomination in any of the above categories, I have seen one: Bridesmaids.

So I'm going to recuse myself from any further discussion of the awards. I'll be back for the ceremony to talk about fashion though.

Of the best picture nominees, I've only seen Moneyball and, other than The Descendants, I'm not terribly interested in seeing any of them. I'll probably check some of them out as come out at Red Box, but on the whole, I'm underwhelmed with this year's crop of movies (not just the Oscar nominees, just movies I've seen this year, in general).

Agreed, but Cars 2 is probably the worst Pixar movie they've made.

Moneyball is the only best picture nominee I've seen. I'm sure I'll see The Help and Descendants and maybe Tree of Life, before the Oscars air, but 1 for 9 for me is pretty bad.

I used to try to see all of the major nominees, but that's just not realistic anymore...
