My wife and I made sure we stocked the **** up on alcohol, like, bottle after big bottle. It might last a month.
This is one way in which we keep our Democracy from being overthrown.Alabama, among all it's other Bible Belt weirdness, decided that since alcohol was sinful stuff, it should tax the hell out of it as well as becoming the primary vendor. The state Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) stores sell wholesale to bars as well as retail to the public. There are relatively few traditional liquor stores, since they have to buy from ABC, but while they cost more they are open late and on Sunday, which the ABC stores are not.
While non-essential businesses have been shut down, the ABC stores have been declared essential and remain open.
Same in Ontario, where I live. Alcohol is expensive as hell here because of how it’s taxed, and probably 90% of its distribution is through government run stores. So you guessed it, alcohol is an essential product here.Alabama, among all it's other Bible Belt weirdness, decided that since alcohol was sinful stuff, it should tax the hell out of it as well as becoming the primary vendor.
