I am too busy to hate myself quite that much.
And, again, dammit, the "news guys" at the Chronicle got the BALCO story because they work regularly with cops, DA's and the like, nit because they were haunting Mexican pharmacies on the off days in the MLB calendar, sniffing out the clientele.

I found the part about moving NBA writers further from the floor pretty interesting. Seems odd. How long until colleges star to do that to sell more floor seats?

They already have in several spots.

I have a hard time reconciling this (from a November column):
Baseball's steroid crisis has spilled over into the sports media in much the way the Iraq crisis spilled over into the news media, or at least onto Judith Miller's desk.
In its wake, there's been an uncommon amount of navel-gazing about the state of "sports journalism."
Let me do what I can to clear this up:
Sports journalism is an oxymoron.

...with this (from the interview):

I should say first that the use of that statement was a device at the top of the column to get a laugh. Clearly it was an exaggeration – sports journalism is not an oxymoron.

I was annoyed at the time.

but his point about tim kurkjian is relevent - how can he oppose an investigation, and then vote for mcgwire because there's no evidence?

I had no idea Tom Keegan ended up as the sports editor at a 20K in Lawrence, Kansas.
Must be a fascinating ride for him, given the contrast to the atmosphere he toiled in before.

Journal-World is a good paper, especially for its size.

Just read the Keegan interview. Good stuff. But I didnt get what was so wonderful about his Albert Belle lead (Albert Belle glared exclusively at the Post yesterday) ... Somewhat humorous, I suppose. But baseball's "lead of the year?" Please.

Now THIS was a good line from Bob Verdi, which Keegan mentioned: "Playing cards three feet from me in the White Sox clubhouse, Albert Belle could not be reached for comment."
