What city for Newsday?

In our bylines for wire stories, we include the city in which a newspaper is located if it isn't in the paper's name.

Example:

The Oregonian (Portland, Ore.)


So ... what city should I put for a Newsday story?

We're in a western state and most people have no idea what Newsday is. New York wouldn't be correct, but is Melville, N.Y. (the mailing address) really all that helpful? I'm considering "Long Island, N.Y." as a compromise.

Long Island is not as town, it is a region.

I'd go with Long Island myself, because you're out west, and Melville is the name of some nerd to them.

Manhattan is an island also, Cap'n.

And, in fact, the Boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn lie entirely on the piece of land known as Long Island. But they are part of New York City while places like Elmont (home of Belmont Park in Nassau County) and Melville in Suffolk County, are not part of New York City but are also on Long Island

But, really, isn't the idea to explain to readers where the thing is? Nobody knows of Melville. But they know of Long Island. And it is the place which Newsday covers (Queens included). So say Long Island.
