Weirdest movie ever?

Has to be something in relatively wide release. Obviously, there are plenty of underground art-school films that could weird anything else under the table.

Off the top of my head, just to get things going:

"Barton Fink"
"Mulholland Drive"
"Magnolia"

I'll still put in for 2001 - I've read countless reviews on the movie, seen it more than three times and still don't understand its point.

And Cronenberg's "Crash" has to be in the conversation.

NBK is a strange movie, but I don't see it as being nearly as strange as some of the David Lynch stuff out there...

Donnie Darko is another one that I'd list.

Has anyone ever seen Delicatessen or City of Lost Children? Both are French Jeunet-Caro movies. Cannibalism, talking brains in jars, etc.

I saw Delicatessen in college. That definitely belongs on this list.

"Adaptation" deserves a mention.

Val Kilmer did a movie called Wonderland about 10 years ago -- it was a biopic of John Holmes and a triple murder that he may or may not have been involved in. Extraordinarily bizarre subject matter, but the acting and filmmaking contributed to the weirdness too.

However, it also made excellent use of Gordon Lightfoot.

Once watched Blue Velvet and Clockwork Orange back to back. An odd movie night.

If I'm not mistaken, it was not a Best Picture nominee, right? Neither was "Almost Famous" from that time period.

It is remarkable how badly and how frequently the Academy whiffs.

I still haven't seen "Almost Famous." I just figure I won't like it, since I don't like period pieces (yeah, that's a stretch) or rock and roll. Someday I'll give it a shot... but I'm afraid of the "Animal House" effect. Finally watched that and thought it was terrible.

I'm with you on "Animal House."

I'd give "Almost Famous" a chance if I were you, though. The period piece aspect is more incidental than anything.
