Surrey County prosecutor ready to go after Vick now:

Now that the feds have done all the real work, this is politically expedient. That said, Vick deserves everything he gets out of this, and probably then some.

Enough is enough. I'm not sure if double jeopardy comes to play here but kicking a kid when he's down is no fun. The guy is going to prison. He's been humiliated. He's lost his career. His income. Damn, I guess some people won't be happy until they take his first born.
Stick a fork in this whole situation.

I agree with Boots. What purpose does this serve other than getting some eager beaver local prosecutor some publicity?

Yeah, Boots and Cran are right. Vick only broke federal and state laws.

You're welcome to your opinion, boots, but kicking someone when he's down apparently is fun. It's one of the things our industry does well, and often. Not that that has anything to do with this. Vick is scum, and he deserves any foul treatment he gets out of this.

Yes he's ****ed up. But the guy is paying the price and he still has to go to jail. It's like handing down a double death sentence. You can only die once.

Gee, now we have DA Gomer protecting us from dog killers.
I feel much safer.

Bull****. The dude broke state and federal laws. After his stint in the federal can, Vick should pay his debt to the state of Virginia.

Well, there are no small number of people who think the price he will pay won't be steep enough, and under our legal system, the local authorities can also prosecute him without it being double jeopardy. Sure, it would've been better if they'd had the huevos to go after him to begin with, because now it looks like grandstanding of the highest order. BTW, Vick didn't die. The dogs did. After they were tortured.

It would be interesting to see how other people who have run dog-fighting operations have been penalized. Athletes shouldn't get preferential treatment. On the other hand, they shouldn't be treated worse because they have higher profiles, either.

Yes, there are many who won't be pleased no matter what penalty Vick gets. I understand he broke state and federal rules. I understand he has to answer for it. Just seems a tad excessive and a bit of double jeopardy.

Spnited, it's Surry County.

Yes, that's true. But in my opinion, the judge'll go Roger Goodell on him because he'll want to send a message. I'm sure that there are not a lot of people that weren't aware of how bad the consequences were for dog fighting before Vick.

It gets worse for Mr. Vick:

http://www.tsn.ca/nfl/news_story/?ID=219170&hubname=

TORONTO - The legal woes of former NFL superstar quarterback Michael Vick took an unexpected Canadian twist Tuesday as the country's biggest financial institution, the Royal Bank of Canada (TSX:RY), revealed in court documents it's suing the suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback for more than US$2.3 million.

The Toronto-based bank, which also does business in the U.S. South under its RBC Centura banner, is arguing that Vick's guilty plea on federal dogfighting charges and the resulting impact on his career have prevented him from repaying money he borrowed.

Vick borrowed $2.5 million from the Royal's private banking arm in January, with plans to use the money for real estate investments, the Toronto-based bank said in the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Newport News, Va.
