Interesting stuff in here about how the liberal media covered Gore during the 2000 campaign.

One small part: Did Al Gore invent the internet?

On March 9, 1999, CNN's Wolf Blitzer conducted an interview with Gore shortly before he officially announced his candidacy. In answer to a question about why Democrats should support him, Gore spoke about his record. "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative"—politico-speak for leadership—"in creating the Internet," he said, before going on to describe other accomplishments. It was true. In the 1970s, the Internet was a limited tool used by the Pentagon and universities for research. As a senator in the 80s, Gore sponsored two bills that turned this government program into an "information superhighway," a term Gore popularized, and made it accessible to all. Vinton Cerf, often called the father of the Internet, has claimed that the Internet would not be where it was without Gore's leadership on the issue. Even former Republican House speaker Newt Gingrich has said that "Gore is the person who, in the Congress, most systematically worked to make sure that we got to an Internet."

Inventing it and sponsoring it are clearly not the same thing. Maybe, he advised Bill before going in front of the Grand Jury.

God, you're dumb.

He never said he invented it. That's what the piece quoted directly above your drivel says.

Go play in traffic.

This was vastly covered in the Fred Thompson thread two weeks ago.

He never said he invented it. Thank You

Maybe you missed this.

Maybe you missed the sentence following it.

"It was true."

Creating and inventing the internet are not the same thing. That's why they're different words. He was responsible for leading the way for the internet that we know and love to come to be.

To borrow from David Fleming, you are the WHYLO of the week.

He took the initiative in allowing the internet to take on its current form. He created an environment that would allow all of us to log on here on a regular basis.

This is not the same as "inventing the internet".

Gotta love that Washington press corps, the same folks who reportedly cheered when Mike Huckabee finished second in the Iowa straw poll recently. They are so, so good at staying focused on the important issues, like how many times Al Gore sighed during a debate.

And they call us the toy department.

My back started to hurt because I laughed so hard.

In today's landscape, saying something... never mind that he never said he invented the internet... gets you a sound bite on TV like "Well I voted for the $87 billion... before I voted against it".

In other words, ya gotta be really careful what you say because you never know when it might be twisted in a TV/print ad or by someone who doesn't have the facts straight.
