Love Boat was never the same without his guest appearances...

NEW YORK – Van Johnson, whose boy-next-door wholesomeness made him a popular Hollywood star in the '40s and '50s with such films as "30 Seconds over Tokyo," "A Guy Named Joe" and "The Caine Mutiny," died Friday of natural causes. He was 92.

Johnson died at Tappan Zee Manor, an assisted living center in Nyack, N.Y., said Wendy Bleisweiss, a close friend.

With his tall, athletic build, handsome, freckled face and sunny personality, the red-haired Johnson starred opposite Esther Williams, June Allyson, Elizabeth Taylor and others during his two decades under contract to MGM.

You just don't see the first name "Van" much anymore do you?

Vance's would rather be Vance's.

This falls under the category of, "I'm shocked he was still alive."

"Howard Johnson's right about Olson Johnson being right!"

"Thank you, Van."

"Willie, note the time. I'm sorry, Captain, but you're a sick man. I'm relieving you under Article 184."

I saw Van Johnson in a production of Brigadoon at Casa Manana in Fort Worth when I was in junior high (a very failed attempt by my mother to inject some culture into our West Texas existence; we also saw Anna Maria Alberghetti as Maria in Sound of Music).

This was more than 30 years ago and I had a hard time believing a guy in his late 50s could wind up tapping some hottie little Scottie.

I actually thought this thread was about the former Broncos receiver.

That's Vance Johnson of the Three Amigos. I'm guessing you can't name the other two.

Right, so how do you get Vance Johnson wrong? Most people forget about Nattiel.

What I meant was based on how someone said earlier in the thread that you don't see the name Van anymore, so I thought the person who started the thread shorted Vance Johnson to Van.

Got ya. But to further continue this threadjack, it's amazing Elway got to multiple Super Bowls with the Three Amigos as his "playmakers."

Yeah, I remember he had a really good RB for a few years, I think his name was Bobby Humphrey, but then he just vanished.

Because as a gimpy 30-something he beat Brett Favre in his prime? :D
