Another example of why Mike Vacarro continues to be the best sports columnist in New York. When was the last time you read a Lupy column telling his readers he was wrong about something?

I'm amazed more writers don't do this ... it's a very easy and smart thing to do and builds good will.

I would have liked it more if he had been contrite and gotten out.

Instead, he just HAD to go all TSP, brown bunny on himself about the Namath parallel he had made.

Couldn't just take his medicine and move on.

I didn't read it all that carefully ... I was just making a general remark in re admitting when you've ****ed up. Seems like a very simple technique (if not overdone) in building a bond with your readership.

I agree with your sentiment.

My feeling as well. Vac has built a bond of trust with his readership.

I agree with Duane saying it is good to admit you are wrong.

But Vaccaro shouldn't have backended that thing with such self-congratulation.

I have such trust in him now. Maybe I'll give him the PIN to my ATM card.

Tom Coughlin is still a jackass.
That is all.
A jackass who wisen up enough to get...

a. Eli to figure out what the **** he's doing in the playoffs...
b. Chose not to get into a pissing match with Tiki...
c. Got Strahan on his side

Yeah, Fen, he's jackass. I spent my school days around hard-ass coaches like Knight and Coughlin. You wouldn't understand.

When the last play is run and the cleats are hung up for good what most players remember are the hard ass coaches who pushed them.

A-****ING-men, d-3.

Everyone has gotten soft as Charmin.

i'll take my cue on coughlin from his former players, thanks. and most of them get him. sure, it takes time. but it's just like the teachers you hated at the time who turned out to be the most you learned from. don't we all have those in our past?

i'm certainly not saying the guy's a charmer. but i do believe he gets the the most out of his players. crap even tiki barber, who so bad-mouthed coughlin when he retired, had his best seasons under coughlin.

It's OK to do it once in a while, but if you do it more than once or twice a year, the readers will think you're just windsocking, and won't take anything you write seriously.

And what a manly man you are, too.

Right. I said, if not overdone. (I rarely see that anywhere, anyhow.)

Gotta break ranks on this one Fen....

Name me a successful NFL coach who isn't a jackass, at least by your definition?
