Interesting. Some people have too much time on their hands.

The reporter, the troops? Not trying to be a jerk, it just seems like a lot of times you drop a one-sentence post into a thread and I'm not sure where you're coming from.

All involved, it appears. Bathroom graffiti? Yeah, interesting story, but what else? I just don't get it. There are people in the Army who aren't happy to be where they are? Sounds like a no-brainer, to me.

Bathroom graffiti just confuses me. I don't get why you'd want to spend more time in there than you have to. I know there's a good Seinfeld quote about it, but I'm too lazy to look it up.

Friend of mine came back from Iraq, he was in the 82nd, and they posted graffiti all over the place. Most of it was in military lingo and I had no clue what it was about. The few I could understand were pretty funny. Quick witted lot, that's for sure.

I actually enjoyed this piece quite a lot. It's not earth shattering, but it's a nice little slice of life from which most of us are far removed.

But we always hear it presented as if every single soldier is absolutely thrilled to go wherever the president sends him.
I know that's their duty, but when we liberals argue about bringing them home, the other side responds, "Why don't you support the troops and let them finish their job?"
As if all the soldiers are going, "Please let me stay in Iraq for the next 100 years. Don't bring me home to my family, Mr. Softy."

Please show me a story that reads as if every soldier is happy to be sent to war.

I'm talking about debates, not stories. The people who scream "SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!" when you tell them there is no reason for us to be in Iraq.
I've had that debate countless times with people over the past five years.

Uhm, I don't think that's what he was implying at all TBF.

OK, I've never heard anyone say even a few soldiers like being there. Have you?

Who on earth WOULD want to be there?

That's absolutely not a point I'd argue, because I agree with you fully. I just don't think that DemoChristian was implying any of that. His point was more to those who think any criticism about the war equals lack of support for the troops. Kind of a hard opinion to have when even the troops don't want to be there.

Personally, I think with such a large portion of the population against the war, it's more than appropriate to do a story like this, letting people know what some soldiers think.

We talk all the time about reaching the readers. Well, with the way public opinion rests right now, isn't this story a case of trying to reach the readers?

I have had arguments with people who claim the soldiers want to be in Iraq. They say you aren't supporting the troops if you try to bring them home, because they haven't finished doing the job.
They say they are over there "defending our freedom."
Now, in the history of this country, the troops have defended our freedom from start to finish. I could never fully express my gratitude for that. But they aren't doing it by being Iraq, anymore than they were doing so by being in Vietnam.
I greatly appreciate everyone who signs up to serve our country. I'd love to see them all come home safety like right ****ing now.
But I'm telling you, there are those on the right side of the aisle who will legitimately claim that makes me anti-troop.

And thank you, AA, for helping me express those points while I had a busy day.
