Take them to the Jersey Shore.
I recommend Ocean City, but Cape May is also cool.

I would highly recommend Puerto Rico, but if your folks have arthritis I would limit the time they spent in Old San Juan. I called it the French Quarter with hills. Lots of cobblestoned streets, uneven sidewalks and a hefty climb/descent to the forts.

But the resort where my wife and I stayed was gorgeous. Very relaxing, beautiful beaches, and the rain forest is right there. We rented a car for the whole two-plus weeks, but they could also take a shuttle from the airport and just rent a car as needed.

There are places on the island you want to avoid, especially in the San Juan area, but overall we loved PR and would go back tomorrow if we could.

Delaware Shores? I used to go to Rehobeth and Ocean City, MD with my wife when I was back East. Not the most worldly but beautiful water and beaches (I'd still pick Hawaii though if you can get them in the plane.)

Hawaii's a long flight from a lot of places.
I'm not knocking it. I love Hawaii, but it's a long flight.

If you do end up picking Isle of Palms, let me know. I've been there about 20+ times, and I would recommend it to anyone, but especially in this scenario with your parents. I've got plenty of recommendations, etc... Love it, love it, love it...

The boys are good, the girls not so much. But there are plenty of dolphins.

This thread got me thinking about aging and how some people hit their 60's and are pretty much done and others lead thriving lives well into their 80's. You look at random people like Pope Francis at 76, Jack McKeon at 83, T Boone Pickens at 85 still living life to it's fullest.Certainly health plays a role but I also think a lot has to do with attitude.

Isle of Palms just sounds like a hooker's tourist attraction.

It's a haven for jerk offs

Well, this has gone off the rails (shocker!), but I'll comment on Jekyll nonetheless. It is much nicer now than it was last time you went, IJAG, and still going through upgrades. (Hilton and W are putting in hotels, though they won't be ready by the time you make this trip.) Got the beach and the history. Nearest shopping is 30-45 minutes away on SSI or at the dying outlet mall on I-95. If the shopping is important to you, probably not the best option. Good restaurants on SSI, though.

That said, of all the options listed here, I'm a fan of San Juan despite the hurricane issue. If you choose that one, you can always buy trip insurance.

In what way has this thread gone off the rails?

If masturbation and prostitutes aren't part of a vacation, I don't want to go.

I am now thinking IJAG was playing an April Fools joke on us. Her parents really are world travelers.

If anyone ever again puts "masturbation and prostitutes" in the same post with my parents, I will hunt you down.

Gross.

You just did.

Hell, if it were up to me, we'd just go to Vegas and I'd let them go to shows while I gamble my savings away. But something's telling me my folks wouldn't love that.

Isle of Palms is looking more likely. Talked to my mom's sister and she strongly advised me to pick a place they can drive to. :)

EDIT: Slight problem. Apparently April is late to book reservations for 4th of July (my mom's already off work that week and she doesn't have much more vacation, so I was going to try to make that work). Plan B commencing.
I have another suggestion: Topsail Island. Can't go wrong there.
