FYI, Moddy. Saw you responded to the farmer's market @ Union Square on that other thread yesterday. We ended up getting this wild leak I have never seen before called ramps. I am surprised, because I thought I knew every vegetable there is and these seemed pretty common--like everyone knew what they were. There was one guy selling them at $2.50 a bunch and people were lined up to buy them, so we stopped to ask what they were. They smelled really fragrant, but we had no idea what to do with them. We ended up sauteing them in a little olive oil with garlic and tossing it with some pasta. It was REALLY good.

Ragu, ramps were once the ultimate hillbilly food. They are quite gentrified now, and there are ramp festivals scattered around Appalachia.

Costco is our place for meat.

Never ceases to amaze me how good the meat is at Costco. You can pay twice as much for steaks at an upscale grocery store and they're not any better.

I live in a major city, but the only TJs are somehow all half an hour away from me. They'd make a killing in my area. And they are intentionally secretive about new locations, so rumors pop up all the time and never amount to anything. Just build one, dammit!

The first sixer I bought was called "Frugal Joe." Good solid beer. The next time I bought "Simpler Times" which checks in at an ass kicking 5.2 booze content. I have a pale ale in my fridge right now.

Even if you don't cook, there are tons of things to microwave as well.

Produce is definitely not their forte. It's not a place you can do your everyday shopping, but for me it's about the little specialty stuff you don't see anywhere else. Like chocolate-covered sunflower seeds.

93, my father goes to Trader Joe's all the time. We get lots of their unique food items there.
