Ravens cornerback Samari Rolle said after the game that head linesman Phil McKinnely repeatedly called him "boy" in the game's closing minutes, a racial insult when spoken by a white person to an African-American.

This was part of Easterbrook's latest anti-Patriots diatribe - he's claiming that the officials were biased in favor of New England on Monday night.

Only one problem: Phil McKinnely is African-American.

Luckily for Easterbrook's career, it is pretty clear that ESPN isn't going to hold him accountable for anything he writes.

(Also, it's probable that 90% of the people who even tried to read this week's TMQ fell asleep during the endless pro-BCS essay at the start of the article. Has Easterbrook ever watched a college football game? He claims that under the old system, instead of a "monster game" like OSU-LSU, "Ohio State might be playing Arkansas". When did Arkansas join the Pac 10?)

I don't know about racism, but I don't know anyone named Rolle who is worth a damn.

You keep pounding on away on Greggy, and soon enough you'll get him!!

Meanwhile, every other commentator, including those who just finished on PTI, will weigh in on the "boy" comment.

She takes offense to that.

Why does the official's race matter?

Calling a grown man "boy," especially a black man, is insulting and racist.

It also shows a tremendous lack of respect.

I'm not sure I understand how a black man can be racist towards another black man.

McKinnely is 53 years old. Rolle is 31, and was mouthing off, yelling "you never played the game" to McKinnely, who, of course, actually did.

To McKinnely, Rolle is indeed a "boy."

Respective race, of course, does matter. If McKinnely was a 53-year-old WHITE guy calling Rolle a "boy," the fire drill would definitely be on, and rightly so. He's not, so it's a non-issue.

Yep. And it was OK for Isiah Thomas to call Anucha Browne-Sanders a *****, because they both are black. ::)

So it's racist for a black man to call another black man "boy," even if they are 22 years apart?

Ohhhh kayyyy

I'm not sure I'd characterize what Easterbrook wrote as an "anti-Patriots diatribe."

Thank you. I particularly enjoyed getting Gene Rayburn in as a bonus.

Dumb Dora is so dumb -- "How dumb is she?"" -- she thought Gregg Easterbrook is a (blank).

That was supposed to be in blue, right? I can introduce you to dozens of such characters. The "black police showin' out for the white cop" Ice Cube described in 1989 immediately comes to mind.

I could be wrong, but I don't find that white folks have to deal with anyone calling them "boy" after they're grown. Think the official would say such a thing to a white player? I doubt it.

No idea how anyone thinks black folks are immune to racism against black people. For real, that was supposed to be in blue, right?

I'm interested in how Rolle and Scott addressed this official. I'm sure it was sir and Mr. Official.

White guys are called ``boy'' all the time. Just go to any stock car race and listen -- ``Jeff Gordon? Yeah, that boy can swap some paint.'' And you've never heard of good old boys? Hell, I see complaints on this board about the ``old boy network'' quite often.

Dark skinned vs. Light skinned. I don't know if it happens much any more, but it did happen. In Puerto Rico, the dark-skinned Ricans are shunned because of their skin color. Racism within a race can happen.

Ok, now I get a better understanding of things. Am I right in thinking it works in a similar way the caste system works in countries like India and Pakistan?
