Re: Wisdon teeth

Get 'em removed.

I had all 4 cut out my senior year in high school. It's not nearly as bad as you imagine. They numb your mouth, then knock you out with an IV drip, you wake up, and it's over.

Then you get to eat pudding as a meal for a couple of days.

Re: Wisdon teeth

If they aren't messing up your mouth and pushing other teeth out of whack. I'd leave em until they start getting cavitites.

One problem when they pull them is that they can bang or permanently injure the nerve that runs under the gum . They will harp on this before they yank it.

Considering eating normal food is a pain in the ass, err, tooth right now, I don't care what they say I have to eat after the fact ... just make the pain stop the way Advil won't.

Why do wisdom teeth coming through hurt any more than any other tooth?

You'd figure that wisdom teeth would smart more than the others.

Try the prime rib. Don't forget to tip your waitresses.

Re: Wisdom teeth

I've had three of the four (one hasn't grown in yet) removed. Two of those three were impacted. I opted for novocaine and laughing gas. It was OK. Most of the lingering pain and soreness came from them having to hinge my jaw open so wide that it looked like I was hit in the face by a 2x4. Of course, the first time, he didn't remove all of the tooth, so the wound wouldn't close. Six days later, I went back, he flushed it out, and I spit out a huge chunk of tooth. One hour later, the wound closed. But you may get Vicodin out of it, so it's not all bad. Good luck.

Re: Wisdom teeth

I had mine taken out a few years back under local and it wasn't a big deal

don't sweat it

Re: Wisdom teeth

I had mine taken out under local, too.

But on one of them the nerve was banged and my mouth was numb for two months.

They'll want to give you gas, most likely, because it's easier for them but I don't like to be out if I can help it.

Re: Wisdom teeth

I got the full knockout. I'd heard too many horror stories of dentists having to get leverage to pull the ****ers out, I didn't want to be awake as he stood astride the chair and yanked for dear life.

Dentist will get me in at 7:45 a.m. Monday. ... She asked if that was too soon. I'd go in right now if I could.
Now I go through five days of eating soft foods ... this sucks.

Dentist? Usually you need an oral surgeon to remove wisdom teeth.

Re: Wisdom teeth

I think my lower left one is coming in, but it comes and goes. Like I'll have a week in which I can barely close my mouth (shut up!) and then it won't hurt again for a few months. I just try to get through the bad times, and not have to go to the dentist.

C'mon that's the fun part. That and when they crack the tooth in half because they can't get it out.

Hell, I'm paying for it. I want to see them sweat.

Re: Wisdom teeth

I had four impacted wisdom teeth removed my freshman year of college. Did it with only a local. Made it through OK. The worst part was the massive amounts of blood that drained into my throat and I wound up swallowing over the next day or so. Made me sick. Also, the holes took nearly a year to fully close up and heal.

Re: Wisdom teeth

Still have my wisdom teeth. I fear the day those need to be removed, because I've heard the stories.
