Dennis Dodd of CBSsports.com lights up the media wannabes, including Clay Travis, who during Thursday's SEC media days asked Tim Tebow if he was a virgin.

If you're going to make a fuss over your own faith, you're going to get questions like that. Would I ask it? No. I wouldn't. But I don't think it's that horrible that somebody else did.

So what should Tebow's response have been? I mean he handled it well, but I wonder if answering maybe encourages that line of questioning.

Maybe he should have said "that's an inappropriate question," and send a message.

On the other hand, he may not mind answering those kind of questions at all, but the problem is when that blogger gets so much attention for asking, he might not know where (and with whom) to draw the line.

A fuss over your faith? Is there are an acceptable level of expression regarding your religious beliefs, or should he just STFU because it makes some people uncomfortable? I know everyone wants the guy to get caught with six hookers and a donkey, and there are plenty of athletes who use "Jesus" to deflect legitimate criticism of their actions. If Tebow proves to be one of those guys, then, by all means, crucify him. Until then, though, doesn't seem to be much harm in him expressing his faith.

On Wednesday, Travis was prompted on a radio talk show in Birmingham by two clods that have to improve to be sophomoric -- everything wrong with talk radio, or as Dixiehack once said "Maxim Light." It was all to be a big joke and a dare, much like 13-year-olds on a camping trip. Whooo hah. What fun.

And he was goaded by Dan Wetzel of Yahoo on the same show. Callers were bitching all afternoon at Travis on the am and fm station (Finebaum was on FM) and the hosts of those shows did a good job of deflection. I wish they would have hung the two ass****s -- whose basic premise consists of beer, boobs, occasionally sports, hot chicks and free food at sponsors restaurants -- out to dry, but maybe they were under orders not to. The callers, however, blasted the hosts for pushing him over the edge. (And Dunaway, I hope your tongue was in cheek, because Travis is a "humorist" like Mariotti is a "babe magnet.".

So here's to you Ian Fitzsimmons and Lance Taylor. Hope the PD hangs your ass out to dry. You got what you wanted and the PD doesn't have the nads to do anything to you. You did mention on the air that your PD felt employees should be "protecting the brand." With the dignity you've shown with this, maybe it was an improvement to your brand, but WJOX in Birmingham's looked like ****.

F-tards. Find another free meal from a sponsor to shill for.

Ditto. He didn't have to answer it, and as much fuss as is made over his faith, I have no issue with it.

I don't think most people are criticizing him for expressing his faith. At least, I'm not. But as much as it's played up, a question like this is bound to be asked. I probably wouldn't have asked it.

It's played up primarily by people whining about how much it's played up.

Clay Travis, the poseur who asked the virginity question, is the same guy who wrote the Tennessean was sitting on a story about Steve McNair's infidelity.

Is Travis compensating for something?

The thing that upsets me the most about it is that the SEC/Florida staff quickly escorted him out of the area so he didn't have to talk about it anymore.

Knowing what I would have heard about the guy, he probably would have discussed the issue for 15 minutes. I'm almost surprised he didn't ask the folks to let him talk about it.

All that being said, I have no issue with the question, though it might have been best asked not in that setting. I think he played it off very well, and even the light-hearted nature afterward was a great way to shrug it off.

Not sure what you're talking about here. The question was the third one asked in the internet/radio room. That room only gets anyone for ten minutes at a time. Tebow completed his assigned time, answering half a dozen more questions post Travis, and then left as scheduled.

If he's being sincere, good for him. I admire him for standing up for what he believes in. I probably wouldn't have asked the question in a group setting, but you get ridiculous questions in places like that all the time.

Think there's some bets going down among some of Florida's finest women tonight on who can convince him to do otherwise??

That question is about as relevant as bringing up missions and Jesus when talking about football, so what difference does it make?

I wouldn't ask it and there probably aren't many who would, but when you make your faith a focal point of most things involving you, it's going to come up eventually.

If the question was WFW how Dodd printed it, then Tebow technically didn't admit he was a virgin, right?

This.

Heavens to Tebow, what's wrong with some people?!

But as much as it's played up, a question like this is bound to be asked.

I don't think anyone ever asked Michael Chang or just about any of the other athletes who were open about their religious beliefs.

Likewise, there are many famous Catholic athletes. I don't think people are asking them whether they use birth control.

Tebow question was completely out of line and, as has been stated before, comes out of the "Maxim Junior" ward of immature journalists.
