I know it's a beautiful area, but it rains all the time.

The Headlight-Herald in Tillamook, an award-winning weekly on the beautiful Oregon Coast, is seeking a sports editor with a passion for putting out a great local sports section and an appreciation for the passions of the kids, the coaches and the parents who make youth sports a great beat. Tillamook County has three high schools with a full array of varsity and JV sports, plus numerous adult sports leagues and activities. And it’s all in the middle of an outdoor sports paradise. Our sports editor must be able to direct stringers, write, shoot and edit as well as lay out and build quality pages electronically. Quark skills a must; Photoshop skills a plus. Don't know about the job, but there's a trail you can take that leads to the beach, or a trail that leads to an ocean lookout that take off from the same trailhead parking lot.
Also, lots of dairy cattle.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Gov. Ted Kulongoski declared a state of emergency in nine additional Oregon counties Wednesday due to heavy rain, flooding and landslides.

The governor had issued an emergency declaration for Tillamook County earlier this week.
One person is dead and another missing in Oregon as a result of rainstorms that are expected to resume as the week ends.

The Mount Hood National Forest reported that the storm caused rivers and creeks to rise, which damaged or removed several bridges and caused closures of a number of forest roads.
High water washed out Oregon 35 on the east side of Mount Hood, which could cost as much as $20 million to reopen.

“None of us at ODOT or the U.S. Forest Service have ever seen it this bad,” Bill Barnhart, an Oregon Department of Transportation manager, told The Oregonian newspaper. “Our biggest concern right now is the safety of our workers.”

The U.S. Coast Guard is reminding visitors to the coast to be cautious.
Earlier this week, two women went missing at a Lincoln County beach after authorities warned them to stay away from it.

The body of Elma Benefiel, 78, was recovered Wednesday on a spit extending north from Gleneden Beach, where the two were last seen. Her daughter-in-law, Jan Benefiel, 61, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, is still missing and presumed to have been swept out to sea.

Kulongoski ordered all state agencies to assist with the continuing problem in Tillamook County and added Clatsop, Clackamas, Columbia, Hood River, Multnomah, Lincoln, Tillamook, Lane and Washington counties to the list of affected counties.

Is that the part of the coast where there is the old broken down ship on the beach or is that more southern of Tillamook?

Umpqua chocolate milk (from Roseburg) is pretty damn good, too. The best I've ever had.

If you're into storms that don't often involve thunder, I know there's places on the Oregon coast that you don't want to miss. Cape Lookout comes immediately to mind.

It rains a lot in Brookings, and you have the Indian casino just a few miles down the road in California.

Brookings is about 300 miles south of Tillamook. But there's an Indian casino around Lincoln City (about 45 miles south of Tillamook). If you're looking to venture a little farther down the coast (and drop $200 a round), Bandon Dunes is about a five hour drive away.

Also, Tillamook Ice Cream is awesome (so's the cheese).

Rain and cheese, thats about it, and the ocean....just take Portland's rain and double it....Tillamook makes good ice cream, too. Obviously lots of cows in the area. Mix in the rain, you get my drift...
