Hey, if you don't want trouble, don't hold those political opinions.

N.B. Comey, a Republican DOJ lawyer, quit in part because of unspecified programs that made him nervous.

Did John Tomase help source this story?

I'm thinking you owe John Ashcroft an apology. I can recall lots of derision of the man coming from you and now you link to a story of Aschroft's integrity and courage even on his sick bed? I'm guessing though you will slough off anything that smacks of even a hint of praise for a Republican.

Yeah. Remember the good, old days when it seems like Ashcroft was the one in the deep end? Look at the divers in the deep trench he was working with all that time.

Ashcroft was miles and miles off the deep end; he was the one who changed the FBI's priorities from counter-terrorism to chasing bong salesmen and pornographers in the early days of 2001. He was the one who anointed himself with cooking oil when he got elected, to imitate the biblical kings of Israel, told an audience America had no king but Jesus, and draped the nekkid statue for his photo ops.
That he gagged on this is a measure more of the depths of what can now be called, as John Mitchell once put it, the White House horrors than it is of Ashcroft's being in any way a mainstream AG.

I am not saying he was mainstream. I was just being nostalgic for the days when his kind of looniness seemed like the worst rather than the best this uber-crappy administration could do.

But go ahead and spin it how you want it, Evil Chris.

I remember lots of crap about "John Ashcroft's America" from the cool kids at the table here. Bunch of know-nothing morons.

Hey Fenian - you going to apologize for the Haditha worse than My Lai rants and the besmirching of the US Marines any time soon?

The 60's are over. Put down the bong. I knew you wouldn't be able to praise the man.

The story quotes a source who says this boogey-man list has existed for at least 5 Presidents. But its Bush Derangement Syndrome that makes it news in your hippy-dippy world.

Ohh George Bush! The sky is falling! Our Constitution has been wiped clean and replaced by the NRA charter! The White House is stealing our precious bodily fluids! Oh my! This is not the America I remember from my drug addled days of my youth.

Fenian, you've got to make this your sig.

On reflection - I apologize for the person attack tone of my last two posts.

Seriously - I apologize. I should be attacking the merits (or lack thereof) of the linked article. Not the person who linked to it.

I'm sorry.

Old news, really. This was detailed pretty well on Frontline last fall. Still apalling, just not new info. Same program also spoke to the AT&T whistleblower who figured out what room with only very special access was for at the San Fran office.

Actually, in the drug-addled days of our youth, some AGs chose to resign when asked by the president to break the law. It was a very groovy time.

Well, also not to mention the fact that this thread was started by the guy who shouts down anything that doesn't fit neatly with his ideology with "wingnut"! The story was written by a Mother Jones writer and is sourced about as well as a Scooby Doo cartoon. By FB's standards it is automatically untrue and he deserves scorn for even linking to it.

By the way, I don't doubt that much of what is in that story is true -- although sensationalized.

I just love that you are pointing out the double standard and what I actually think is blindness to it.

Congrats, Rags. When the bombs drop, you will be free to stand in line for bread and sandals without being roundup up by the jackboots.
