The Super Bowl Prediction Story....

The local shop did the Super Bowl prediction story that included the County Sheriff, some politicians and business folk, et al..and even some area football coaches!

What say you fine folk about this taking up space in the sports section?

I did a brief Q&A with local football coaches about the Super Bowl. Our paper is hyper local, so this is a way to localize something as grand as the Super Bowl. Plus it's easy content.

I always thought it was great; everyone loves seeing their predictions in the paper, or seeing what their friends and neighbors say.

I think it can be done well, if you get coaches and community people who have some fun with it and are insightful and entertaining with their picks. There are people in our community who are infinitely more interesting than fb coaches around here.

I'd rather read that than some wire feature on Tom Brady's rise from a sixth-round draft pick to NFL godliness.

I've never minded it. Like Mr. Prunka says, it's a great way to localize a national story. Plus, you get some comic relief if some of those surveyed obviously don't know much about football ("I'm picking Team A because they have prettier helmets!")

This totally reminded me that I forgot to include the predictions form the coaches I talked to. ****.

I honestly love stuff like this. It may seem hokey or dumb, which it is, but when it's localized to this level people in the community eat it up.

One year I called random people in the phone book and it turned into this fantastic thing. The longer the chats went, the more I found out, and so many of them had terrific backstories.

It was a weekly so I gave it an entire page. Lotta fun. Readers enjoyed it.

That's a really good idea on how to put an original twist on an evergreen story.

I wouldn't read it, but I don't mind it being done. It's like the Kentucky Derby; everyone and their grandmother has an opinion they want to share.

What about going to high school and college coaches and having them break down film? What makes Tom Brady and Fletcher Cox so good? How would Coach X stop Gronk?
