I was checking out some of the highlights of the flag football thing and hadn't heard of a couple of the people on the NFL teams, only to find out they are "influencers."
I've become accustomed to seeing "YouTube" star attached to people on Dancing With The Stars, maybe playing on All-Star Celebrity games, but its been a big week for influencers.
ABC ended up cancelling an entire season of the Bachelorette and now will have to fill about 15-20 hours of primetime programming after the video surfaced of a well-reported domestic altercation of the bachelorette, who was selected largely based on her social media following.
FOX is filling the cast of its Baywatch reboot with people - such as Olivia Dunn, known more for their number of followers than their acting chops.
And then Cleetus McFarland's upcoming foray into NASCAR racing.
And I'm sure there are things I've missed.
Obviously the media landscape is constantly changing, goodbye CBS Radio and late night shows, hello podcasts and Mr. Beast, but I am amazed how apparently desperate Big Media is for audience that they will "welcome in" an influencer based more on the audience they assume will come with them, than skill or credibility. I guess I find odd as well that the influencer/podcast types crave the wider exposure of Big Media almost as much.
I'm assuming a podcaster/influencer type with no political experience will actually run and gain traction in the 2028 Presidential election.
