So sad. I spent some time covering John's minor league career. A very quirky individual who seemed a bit perplexed by all the attention from the bat trade. Decent pitcher, but a mercurial guy. R.I.P.
That kid was from North Springs? Damn. I played in a fall-ball league around there in high school, and Odom was about a month older than me, according to his B-R page. Makes me wonder if I ever played against him back then.
Very sad story. Sounds like he was in a bad place to begin with, and the life of a ballplayer in the bus leagues doesn't make that any easier.
Saw his obit in Baseball America back in April, which is of note once you read the story. Glad I got to read that, and see that there was a lot more behind being traded for 10 bats...
