I think if he was terminal it would have been mentioned. Could be wrong, but I think the implication is just that Ebert is getting old and is one more bad medical break away from sudden death (but then, aren't we all).

Doing a profile on another writer, let alone a Pulitzer winner like Ebert, has to be one of the most intimidating things imaginable. Nice job. I still love reading Ebert's reviews, unlike most well known critics he judges films on their own merits and doesn't treat an action movie or a comedy the same way he would a serious drama.

I figured everyone knew simply because of him going off the show, which I think he would have done until his dying breath if he was physically able to. I remember Siskel's shows when he came back after first being sick. Incredibly sad. And there's a line in the story about how much Ebert still misses him so much.

I agree about writing about another writer, has always seemed like an intimidating proposition.

Ebert's books, the ones about great movies and the ones about terrible movies, are definitely worth purchasing.

I read Jones' story the other night and loved it. And there's nothing wrong with going without underwear as long as you're clean.
