The Capital Journal has an immediate opening for sports editor to continue to oversee the transformation of our sports section into a consistent award winner. The editor will be a jack of all trades, overseeing the sports gathering and operations while producing engaging, active and interesting. The sports editor will paginate and design pages, will work with coaches and athletes to generate game and feature stories, write a weekly sports column, and create special sports-related sections. The ideal candidate must understand team work, community involvement and deadlines. Layout and photography skills a must. The ideal candidate will have a sports or news background and knowledge of AP style and current events. Supervisory skills are preferred, but the candidate must have the ability to coach and collaborate and possess strong communication skills. Full time position located in Pierre, South Dakota. The Capital Journal, a five-day morning daily, is part of Arizona-based Wick Communications. The group offers health and dental coverage and 401k.
