The Capital Journal has an immediate opening for sports editor to continue to oversee the transformation of our sports section into a consistent award winner. The editor will be a jack of all trades, overseeing the sports gathering and operations while producing engaging, active and interesting. The sports editor will paginate and design pages, will work with coaches and athletes to generate game and feature stories, write a weekly sports column, and create special sports-related sections. The ideal candidate must understand team work, community involvement and deadlines. Layout and photography skills a must. The ideal candidate will have a sports or news background and knowledge of AP style and current events. Supervisory skills are preferred, but the candidate must have the ability to coach and collaborate and possess strong communication skills. Full time position located in Pierre, South Dakota. The Capital Journal, a five-day morning daily, is part of Arizona-based Wick Communications. The group offers health and dental coverage and 401k. Pronounced "Peer", which, translated to Lakota, means "Armpit of South Dakota."

When the Dakota Territory was divided in 1888, they couldn't decide whether to put the capital of South Dakota in Sioux Falls, or West River in Rapid or Spearfish. So they compromised, settled on Pierre. Been downhill ever since.

Some say they should have formed West and East Dakota, along geographic lines. Some say the whole thing should become Buffalo Commons. Still other say Micro shouldn't post when he's half hammered, and they are the most rightous people here.

Pierre is going to be fairly dull for anyone looking for an active night life, and it is fairly geographically isolated. No way around that. Get used to shopping on the internet.

If you're a hunter or fisherman, however, this might be the place for you. The best pheasant hunting in the world and some *** good (pun intended) walleye fishing on the Oahe reservoir. For camping and whatnot you're also a short (relatively) drive from the Black Hills and Badlands.

It's a really sleepy town for most of the year that picks up a bit when the legislature is in session. The bars are all over the place and not great places to meet people, for the most part.

They are open an extra hour on the Stanley County side of the river, so you got that going for you.

Which is nice.
