California lawmakers refuse to honor John Wayne on due to some racist statements he made.
I can't say I blame lawmakers on this one. Wayne's statement to Playboy in the 1971 article are pretty bad. In terms of a government entity, I'd probably pass on honoring him to.

Racist statements lead lawmakers to reject John Wayne Day

A 1971 interview with Playboy in which Wayne talked disparagingly about blacks.
"I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to a point of responsibility. I don't believe in giving authority and positions of leadership and judgment to irresponsible people," he told the magazine (50 Years of the Playboy Interview: John Wayne .)

I love the last people:

Tell me what you're wearing today.
Guy:
A shirt?
Girl: Awesome clothing.

And why are you wearing this?
Guy:
To... stay out of the sun?
Girl: And because it's comfortable.

Do you feel weird wearing what you're wearing at all?
Guy:
No.
Girl: No. I feel free.

Who knew John Wayne was a student of DuBois?
The Negro race, like all races, is going to be saved by its exceptional men. The problem of education, then, among Negroes must first of all deal with the Talented Tenth; it is the problem of developing the Best of this race that they may guide the Mass away from the contamination and death of the Worst, in their own and other races. Now the training of men is a difficult and intricate task. Its technique is a matter for educational experts, but its object is for the vision of seers. If we make money the object of man-training, we shall develop money-makers but not necessarily men; if we make technical skill the object of education, we may possess artisans but not, in nature, men. Men we shall have only as we make manhood the object of the work of the schools–intelligence, broad sympathy, knowledge of the world that was and is, and of the relation of men to it–this is the curriculum of that Higher Education which must underlie true life. On this foundation we may build bread winning, skill of hand and quickness of brain, with never a fear lest the child and man mistake the means of living for the object of life. W.E.B. DuBois

I love Vice, but that is like shooting fish in a barrel using a rocket launcher. If anyone they interviewed wasn't strung out, high as a kite or drunk, I'd be surprised. Coachella is a place people go to be seen. For those that believe being seen is a big deal, well, I just don't see a tremendous amount of intellect involved...

I used to go to music festivals - long before "festival style" became a thing. Chacos, shorts and a tee shirt were the uniform of damn near everybody. Rain jackets and cap if it was raining. Of course, we were also camping, not "glamping."

Also, you damn kids get off my lawn.

Ha! I had a get off my lawn moment and, while it was happening, had the revelation that it was happening. I hung my head in shame upon finishing what I was saying. Truly awful...
