I guess you'd really have to ask someone of that generation. To the best of my knowledge, probably not. I don't really think the Allies knew of all the atrocities until we liberated Europe and actually entered Germany. I'd say they some idea, just not the total extent.

As for the movie being stupid, I don't care. It's Dirty Dozen meets Kill Bill with a little Reservoir Dogs thrown in on the side.

I don't think the general public new what the Nazis were doing, but they were the enemy. That was probably enough for most people.

There were people in this country who had been told what was going on in the concentration camps. When they actually started believing the stories is up for debate.
